Newborn babies are the best thing ever!

I missed the birth of my best friend's first baby by one hour. It wasn't for lack of trying...I made it from being dead asleep in downtown Montreal to renting a car at the airport and arriving at the farm in less than three hours. That was apparently not fast enough for Jules - she had the fastest first labour ever. All that matters though is that everyone is happy and healthy and wonderful. I will never forget walking in the bedroom to see my Jules with a little baby resting on her tummy. He was so small and floppy and so incredibly beautiful. Little Lukas. Those first four days were incredible. I am just sohappy that I was able to be there. It was so magical.

Wow, I'm really bad at this!!

I had such great intentions of writing to this blog at least once a week...maybe I should have aimed a little lower to start - like once a year!

Over a year has passed since my last post so I think I had better give a point-form update, and then maybe I can be more insightful next time!

-moved to a new apartment
- went to Malawi and spent a month diving in Lake Malawi
- got a parasite
- got rid of the parasite
- quit my first postdoc (after some serious soul searching)
- took a two month break in Nova Scotia to re-group
- moved to Montreal, Quebec (third move in two years)
- started my postdoc at McGill University
- am feeling much happier
- currently painting a jungle scene on my balcony; planning to attend the birth of my best friend's first baby; starting a really cool experiment in the lab; collaborating with some very cool people on new projects; and, basically enjoying life.
